Project Name:

Countdown to Regatta

Description

As the Coordinator of Social Media and Design for IU Indianapolis’s 16th Annual Regatta, I was tasked with promoting individual aspects of the event, like Regatta Royalty, as well as the event as a whole.

The “Countdown to Regatta” campaign included 3 carousel post designs and story-sized versions of each. With Regatta’s social media promotion, I aimed for photograph-heavy designs that incorporated direct interaction with other graphic elements. In the background of this design is a collage of photography from the 2023 event. I incorporated Indiana University branding via typography and a crimson overlay of the grid-style collage.

The overlap of photographic content over other graphic elements creates a cohesive composition through layering and visual balance. With this campaign, I wanted visual cohesion to convey the sense of a countdown—the layout remains similar, but the numbers and text convey a shorter and shorter period of time until the event.

The “100 DAYS” and “25 DAYS” story posts include extra space toward the top to account for Instagram’s app design that overlays profile pictures. I decided for the last post of the campaign that this would be unnecessary.

Project Name:

Battleships "Save the Date"

Problem:

Battleships is a collaborative event between Regatta and Jagathon—two iconic on-campus organizations.

To promote this event, the Regatta Director of Public Relations and VP of Jagathon requested that I design a handout to be printed and distributed to staff on campus.

The goal was to create a design inspired by save-the-date prints traditionally associated with weddings.

For this design, since the event it’s promoting is very collaborative, I wanted it to stand out from the rest of Regatta’s social media graphic lineup from 2024. The design heavily emphasizes water visuals—utilizing on-brand blues, an illustrative graphic, and a water-accented photograph.

Buckets are another iconic visual of the event, so I wanted to incorporate at least one prominently. I found the best way to do this was to utilize one as a container for the QR code meant to be scanned by staff. The result is a functional and visually fun design.
